Between hair Doshas? How to combine your care

Ayurveda says it’s not uncommon to embody character traits of two Doshas. The same applies for hair. Sound like you? Find out your best care combination (and results) in our expert guide.

Hair Masterclass

Our Customer Care team helps many customers to personalise their Chāmpo routine in line with their needs. Hair and scalp condition are affected by many factors and do change, whether temporary or longer-term.

If you’re between hair Dosha types, or your usual system isn’t quite meeting your needs now, an easy revision of your hair wash routine is often all that’s needed.

Dry, damaged hair & an irritated, dry scalp | Vata X Kapha

For hair to be healthy, our scalp needs to be healthy too, so we’ll start here…

Our Kapha balancing system is ideal for irritated scalps. Our shampoo harnesses ultra-gentle coconut-based cleansers to detox scalps without stripping, so won’t exacerbate sensitive areas. Turmeric Extract is our other hero active. Rich in curcuminoids (powerful, natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatories), it soothes your scalp, improves tone and restores balance. Of course, dry ends also characterise Kapha hair types, so we tailored our conditioner to weightlessly nourish and lock-in moisture, reviving smoothness, shine and lustre.

Our Vata hydrating system is trichologically formulated for dry, difficult or damaged hair. Our shampoo and conditioner harness King Coconut, Amla and Macadamia to deliver deep, lasting, much-needed moisture and restore radiant shine, smoothness and manageability.

Try alternating between Vata and Kapha. You may find Kapha balancing shampoo with Vata hydrating conditioner addresses both your scalp's specific needs and your hair’s craving for moisture.

“I originally started with Vata to repair my frizzy, breaking hair. It gave my hair a boost but my scalp would get oilier. I contacted customer care and they advised me to try Kapha. My scalp feels clean, my hair is shiny, has no frizz and looks healthy. I absolutely love it!” Enrika

Fine, thinning hair & an oily scalp | Pitta X Kapha

The smaller follicles and thinner strands of fine hair types can make the distribution of natural scalp oils trickier, compared to thicker, fuller hair. The result is a build-up of sebum at the roots, which worsens the flat-lying tendency of your hair type. You need a Kapha collab.

Our Pitta volumising range is trichologically designed for fine or thinning hair and hair loss. The shampoo is purposefully low-foaming, harnessing a very mild coconut-based cleanser which, while gentle and conditioning, may not be most effective for an oily scalp.

Enter Kapha balancing. Also suitable for fine or thinning hair, its shampoo formula incorporates a more concentrated and robust cleanser ideal for clearing excess oil to leave greasy roots feeling fresh while also still lightly hydrating dry ends. Our conditioner complex is also lighter weight and ideal for softening and conditioning any dry, coarse and frizzy ends you may have.

On days your scalp feels more greasy or in need of a deep cleanse, use Kapha. For your regular, lightly cleansing wash days, switch back to Pitta as it also works to optimise fullness, thickness, body and strength - crucial qualities for fine or thinning hair.

“I originally bought Pitta, but it wasn’t quite right. I have fine hair, experience a lot of breakage and much less volume. I emailed customer care, they were absolutely amazing! Recommended Kapha - it’s fabulous! Thicker, fuller, healthy looking hair. Just so much better.” Kerry
