Prevention vs cure | Why we take Ayurveda’s lead

Ayurvedic wisdom informs all we do, from how we approach haircare to the ingredients we choose to deliver it. Hundreds of thousands of you agree that it’s made an incredible difference to the results you see. So, what’s the secret?

Brand Origins

The core of Ayurveda is concentrated on prevention.

For decades, Western wellness practice primarily focused on treating issues. Ayurveda prioritises the opposite. It believes mind, body and spirit are connected and that balance across all three keeps us healthy. This prevention principle forms the keystone of all our products.

Ayurveda uses three Doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha - to describe our physical and emotional character. We each have a dominant Dosha with a blend of one or both of the other two. Depending on this mix, factors such as seasonal change, pollution, diet, sleep and stress affect our Dosha balance and impact the health of our minds, bodies, skin and even hair.

We mirror these three Dosha types in our three hair systems. They help us understand your hair, how imbalances affect its condition and the most effective actives to harness in formulas for harmony, protection and health.

Vata hydrating

Medium hair texture; naturally curly, coiled or wavy. In balance, it’s supple, soft and full of life. Out of balance it feels dry, brittle, dull and frizzy, as it finds moisture hard to hold on to.

Key Ayurvedic actives in Vata | King Coconut, Amla and Macadamia Seed
Used for thousands of years in Ayurveda, these botanicals draw moisture deeply into hair, deliver resilience against environmental damage and improve softness, smoothness and shine.

Ayurvedic Essential Oil Blend | Jasmine absolute, Australian Sandalwood and Patchouli
Warming, calming and mood-enhancing.

Pitta volumising

Fine in texture and often straight. In balance, it’s silky and manageable. Out of balance it feels weak and may experience thinning and hair loss as strength is consumed so easily.

Key Ayurvedic actives in Pitta | Haritaki, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang
Haritaki is one of Ayurveda’s most highly revered herbs due to its nourishing, strengthening and protective qualities, while Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang stimulate scalp circulation to maintain optimal conditions for healthy growth.

Ayurvedic Essential Oil Blend | Geranium, Himalayan Jatamansi, Neroli and Petitgrain
Fresh and sweet, helping to cool this naturally fiery Dosha type, keep it grounded and build hair and scalp resilience.

Kapha balancing

Thick in texture, often with a soft wave. In balance, its lustre and volume are enviable. Out of balance, hair quickly becomes excessively oily at the roots, coarse at the ends, heavy and hard to style.

Key Ayurvedic actives in Kapha | Turmeric Root and Coconut
Ayurveda calls Turmeric “the golden goddess” for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities, helping keep the scalp toned, soothed and in balance, while Coconut gently purifies and weightlessly smooths and shines.

Ayurvedic Essential Oil Blend | Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Eucalyptus and Frankincense
Inspires harmony and vitality while also helping purify, balance and smooth hair.

Pitta growth serum

Our pioneering daily scalp treatment benefits all hair Doshas. Designed to soothe the scalp and naturally restore optimised conditions, it helps target hair thinning and loss and promote strong, healthy growth.

Key Ayurvedic actives | Haritaki, Geranium, Himalayan Jatamansi, Neroli and Petitgrain
This advanced complex is all about delivering strength, nourishment and resilience. Essential oils are handpicked to encourage this while scientific research supports Haritaki’s effectiveness in protecting hair from the damaging effects of UV, hormonal change and oxidative stress.
